Transforming our region

The Transforming Our Region series brings together businesses, organisations and partners from across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, to share updates on impact and current delivery, learn from experiences and insights, and identify new opportunities for growth and further diversification.

Industry leaders representing the key sectors of digital; energy; food, drink and agriculture; life sciences and tourism are joining the events on the themes of Leadership, Entrepreneurial Growth and Digital Acceleration to discuss and share ideas on how to shape the region's future low-carbon economy and influence the quality and scale of opportunities it provides for businesses and individuals.

The first event in the series, on the theme of Leadership, took place on 16 November 2021 with valuable ideas and proposals offered on how to best navigate economic recovery and achieve sustainable growth. Key themes that emerged through discussion on the night included the strength of our people and skills base, climate tech and energy transition, entrepreneurial business growth, commercialising innovation from our academic and research communities, inward investment, the region's natural assets and quality of life, advantages of key sectors meeting fundamental needs including food and drink manufacturing and energy, and building on the progress already made in diversifying key sectors through transformational projects.

The outputs will be collated over the series of engagement events to identify potential projects with options to test and develop them with industry. The outcomes of this process will inform the ONE annual event in summer 2022.

The three key questions that businesses, partners and stakeholders are considering across the series of engagement events are:

• What are you optimistic about for the future of your business and the region?
• How do we maximise these opportunities for the region's economy and its key sectors?
• What new projects could make the biggest difference to the region for sustainable business growth, employment and skills?
